About the Role
Upper Canada Child Care is recruiting a temporary Assistant Educator to join their Team in North York. This role ensures operational and curriculum requirements are met in compliance with Ministry and organizational guidelines, delivering a developmentally appropriate, play-based program.
Responsibilities
- Applies current legislative expectations to support a program consistent with Ministry of Education requirements and Upper Canada Child Care’s program statement.
- Participates in professional development opportunities, staff meetings, and training sessions.
- Engages with children and provides a positive learning experience, assisting with meals, toileting, diapering, and dressing.
- Fosters parent engagement and communication regarding the program and their children.
- Completes program charts, daily logs, reports, and other administrative tasks.
- Uses Storypark for pedagogical documentation to guide program development.
- Collaborates and communicates effectively with team members, school personnel, and outside agencies to support children's needs.
- Provides guidance to students and volunteers.
- Identifies children needing additional support and guides parents through accessing resources.
- Helps design and implement individual support plans as required.
Requirements
- Must be available to work a split shift in a before and after school program.
- Must be available to work a minimum of 5 assigned shifts every month.
- A recent Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
- Health assessment and record of immunization, as outlined by legislation.
- Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid (training provided upon selection if required).
- Basic knowledge of children's developmental needs and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge.
- Experience with inquiry/play-based program design and implementation, and with the use of pedagogical documentation is an asset.
- Uses initiative; applies sound reason in solving problems and resolves conflict calmly and professionally.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers, and other professionals.
- Possesses the physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in various settings, including outdoor public spaces.
- Ability to use computer systems and programs, including Dayforce and Storypark.
- Regularly requires a moderate level of physical effort, including kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, and carrying.
