About the Role
SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and the Department of Neurology seek a Research Professor to lead a laboratory research program focused on the molecular mechanisms of neuroprotection and neuronal cell death, with implications for stroke therapy. The ideal candidate will have a strong NIH-funded grant portfolio and be a recognized international leader in their field.
Responsibilities
- Pursue research and scholarly work in your field of study
- Seek out external funding to support your research program
- Be involved in university service including committee service and interviewing applicants
- Support the educational and research mission of the College of Medicine
- Serve as an Advisor for Medical Student Research within the Department of Medical Education
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of research-related activities involving medical students
- Ensure students have access to high-quality research opportunities, mentorship, and resources
- Assist with grade appeals within the Department of Medical Education
- Participate in the teaching of medical school and graduate school students, including leading small groups, lecturing, and serving as a research mentor
- Play an active role in the wider academic community through departmental and university committee service and interviewing applicants
- Other duties and responsibilities as required
Requirements
- MD or PhD Degree
- 5-years of research experience, clinical expertise and experience in neurorehabilitation
- A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
