About the Role
OpenAI seeks a strategic operator to advance life sciences capabilities and translate them into scientific and commercial impact. This role involves identifying opportunities to improve AI models and products, leading partnerships, and driving strategic initiatives to integrate these capabilities into scientific workflows.
Responsibilities
- Shape capability priorities by identifying and prioritizing new life sciences capabilities with research and cross-functional teams, balancing scientific value, technical feasibility, and commercial potential.
- Build and execute data, research, and commercial partnerships with biotechnology companies, pharmaceutical organizations, and other life sciences ecosystem participants.
- Translate capabilities into real-world applications by partnering with external organizations to apply OpenAI’s technology in scientific workflows, evaluating its usefulness, and informing further development.
- Structure effective collaborations by defining partnership scope, aligning incentives, and navigating data access, intellectual property, commercial terms, and governance with legal, finance, research, and other teams.
- Lead strategic initiatives, including licensing, joint development, and new AI applications, to advance scientific capabilities and create long-term value for OpenAI.
- Drive operational execution by establishing clear objectives, milestones, and ownership; coordinating resources; and resolving obstacles across internal teams and external partners.
- Expand access to expertise by identifying capability gaps and helping engage key talent, advisors, and partners.
Requirements
- Experience developing and executing partnerships in life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or a closely related field.
- A track record of turning strategic opportunities into concrete agreements and successful execution.
- Ability to engage deeply with scientific and technical teams and translate their work into clear partnership opportunities and operating plans.
- Strong commercial and financial judgment, with experience navigating complex incentives, economics, data rights, and intellectual property.
- Ability to move comfortably between setting strategy and managing the details required to deliver results.
- Skill in building trusted relationships across organizations and working effectively with partners of different sizes and stages.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment with incomplete information and bring curiosity, discretion, and a collaborative approach to work.
