About the Role
Mercor is seeking academic groups, independent researchers, and non-profit organizations to apply for our $5 million AI Capability Research Grant. This grant supports research focused on real-world evaluations, building high-fidelity environments, long-horizon tasks, agentic capabilities, reasoning and problem-solving, post-training methods, and evaluation methodology. Grantees will gain access to Mercor's expert network and internal evaluation infrastructure, and are expected to publish their findings.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on real-world evaluations of AI capabilities.
- Build high-fidelity, interactive environments to simulate real-world work.
- Evaluate and improve AI models' ability to handle long-horizon tasks.
- Develop agentic capabilities in AI models, including tool use, coordination, memory, and autonomous execution.
- Enhance AI performance on complex, ambiguous, or underspecified tasks.
- Develop better data, rewards, and training methods to improve model capabilities.
- Create more robust measures of AI capability, reliability, and real-world utility.
- Publish research findings, such as papers, open datasets, public methodologies, or tools.
Requirements
- Must be an academic group, independent researcher, or non-profit organization.
- Must have a specific, well-scoped research question.
- Experience with agentic evaluation is a plus.
- Experience with RL environments is a plus.
- Experience with post-training methods is a plus.
- Ability to publish research findings.
