About the Role

Thumbtack is seeking a leader for its Data Engineering team, which is responsible for the foundational marketplace data, including event taxonomy, core entity models, and financial models. This role involves working at the intersection of financial data governance and rapid product iteration, ensuring revenue models are auditable, reconcilable, and resilient. The team is also involved in architecting data for new platforms supporting sales, support, and trust & safety.

Responsibilities

Deliver well-modeled, durable datasets for requests, projects, pros, and customers.
Partner with Finance to ensure revenue models reconcile, maintain definitions under upstream change, and are auditable.
Collaborate with Supply Acquisition and Business Platforms teams on their roadmaps, translating priorities into action.
Enhance the reliability of core pipelines through dbt tests, CI, anomaly detection, and clear contracts.
Hire and develop mid-level and senior data engineers, and cultivate technical leads.
Establish engineering standards for a forming team, including review processes, testing strategies, and decision-making on scope.
Make and defend modeling and architecture decisions as a technical manager.

Requirements

2+ years managing engineers, or experience as a tech lead ready for first-line management.
6+ years building data or software systems in production.
Depth in SQL and dimensional and event modeling.
Comfort in Python for code reviews, debugging, and modeling discussions.
Experience owning datasets with a discipline for testing, contracts, and versioning.
Proven ability to translate ambiguous business questions into durable models and metric definitions.
Strong collaboration and written communication skills.
