About the Role
Enbridge Gas UWI is seeking a Senior Engineer for its Engineering Technical Services team. This role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient natural gas systems by resolving complex engineering challenges, leading technical initiatives, and influencing standards and design practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex engineering activities including standards development, specifications, design of pipelines and stations, design reviews, Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) design, geotechnical evaluations, and technical assessments.
- Provide senior technical expertise to operations, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Resolve complex technical issues independently, recommending design or standards deviations as needed.
- Integrate and coordinate engineering requirements across operations, construction, and asset management teams.
- Drive standards and specification management programs, ensuring alignment and consistency across the business.
- Support high-impact capital and maintenance projects, including risk assessments, asset integrity reviews, stakeholder communication, and mentoring of technical teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program.
- 6+ years of related paid experience in engineering design, engineering build, standards development, and frontline operations technical support within manufacturing, energy, consulting, or similar industries.
- Holds a Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or can obtain one.
- Advanced knowledge of pipeline engineering, design practices, and key industry standards (DOT PHMSA, ASME, API).
- Proven ability to independently solve complex technical problems, applying strong analytical and sound engineering judgment.
- Effective communicator and collaborator, able to influence stakeholders and convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong project manager who uses analytical abilities to problem solve while showing a proven ability to collaborate cross functionally and influence partners.
- Experience in natural gas utilities, pipeline operations, or similar energy sectors is an asset.
- Experience with standards development and specification management is an asset.
- Knowledge of HDD, geotechnical engineering, and asset integrity practices is a plus but is not required.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers or coordinating technical teams is an asset.
- Requires grasping, kneeling, lifting objects up to 20 pounds, reaching overhead, and performing repetitive movements.
- Tasks include typing, sitting, standing, and visual activities such as viewing screens, recognizing color codes, and reading fine print.
- Hearing ability, prolonged computer use, and the ability to work in tight spaces are also necessary.
- Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral or written instructions and other information.
- Understand complex problems and explore alternative solutions collaboratively.
- Coordinate thoughts and ideas into clear terminology.
- Prioritize and coordinate a short-term work schedule.
- Make decisions with moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor effects beyond it.
- Follow basic instructions and guidelines.
- Complete routine forms and compose letters, outlines, memoranda, and basic reports.
- Communicate with individuals via telephone and other channels.
- A valid driver’s license, ability to travel, and maintenance of a responsible driving record is required.
