About the Role
The role will develop a deep understanding of ceramic formulations and processes, with a major focus on supporting tape-casting formulations and process development for energy materials, battery materials, and other emerging ceramic products. The individual is expected to have broad technical interests, strong motivation, and sound interpersonal skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Participate in new products and process development.
- Drive learning efficiently and systematically by designing, planning, and executing experiments on lab and pilot-scale equipment based on project objectives and overall strategy.
- Drive critical understanding based on first principles, inference, and observations.
- Support the design of prototype and pilot equipment, establish baseline processes, and transfer process knowledge to the engineering team.
- Manage day-to-day activities through hands-on experimentation and documentation/sharing of results.
- Define appropriate process and response data to collect, then analyze and interpret that data to generate actionable insights.
- Coordinate with other process areas to build a shared understanding of the overall process window and deliver samples for internal and external use.
Requirements
- Minimum Master's degree in polymer engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, ceramic engineering, material science engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3+ years of tape-casting experience.
- Deep expertise in organic binders and plasticizers, including rheology, solvent compatibility, and burnout behavior.
- Hands-on skill in slurry processing, rheology measurement, and doctor blade or slot-die ceramic shaping.
