About the Role

Data Products owns the data and infrastructure that enables Ovative employees and clients to access necessary data and reporting. The team utilizes a modern tech stack including Dagster, Databricks, and dbt, and is responsible for the entire data lifecycle from ingest and modeling to access permissions. This role will lead the team, set the delivery rhythm, develop engineers, and represent Data Products to various partners.

Responsibilities

  • Own the delivery plan for each sprint in collaboration with the Product Owner and Engineering Leads, ensuring clear and well-scoped stories.
  • Maintain a steady delivery rhythm and manage scope shifts deliberately during planning.
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and provide specific, actionable feedback to team members across data engineering, full stack, and QA disciplines.
  • Establish clear expectations for ownership and quality, addressing issues promptly.
  • Collaborate on building plans and hold the team accountable for deliverables.
  • Create growth opportunities for team members to increase ownership and versatility.
  • Recognize team members for both their work and their collaborative approach.
  • Ensure timely and focused code reviews, emphasizing maintainability, stability, and security.
  • Verify that all code, including AI-generated code, is fully understood and owned by the submitter.
  • Build and manage team health reporting to ensure strong operations and team success.
  • Manage relationships with a diverse set of partners, including operations and client delivery teams, and executive stakeholders.
  • Partner with the Product Owner to refine requirements and priorities across business needs, engineering excellence, and efficiency.
  • Advocate for the team's needs, manage stakeholder expectations realistically, and communicate proactively.
  • Foster psychological safety by modeling openness and treating mistakes as learning opportunities.
  • Run effective retrospectives and involve the team in difficult decisions.
  • Champion responsible AI adoption, helping the team identify patterns that enhance delivery speed while maintaining quality and security.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in software or data engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Direct management experience leading engineers, including senior or lead engineers.
  • Working familiarity with modern data platform and orchestration tooling (e.g., Dagster, Airflow, or similar).
  • Working familiarity with cloud data warehousing (e.g., Databricks, BigQuery, Snowflake).
  • Working familiarity with transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt).
  • Strong technical literacy and comfort with data pipeline concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience managing relationships across multiple stakeholder groups, including client-delivery-adjacent work such as access and governance requests.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies in a sprint-based product delivery model.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with agentic AI technologies and setting practical guardrails for AI-assisted or AI-generated code.
  • Experience with marketing APIs, ad-tech data, or automating data pulls from marketing platforms.
  • Data modeling experience.
  • Experience partnering directly with client-facing or client-delivery teams on data requests.
  • Experience influencing budget and investment decisions for engineering organizations, including capital requests and ROI analysis.

Salary/Compensations

  • $90,000 to $132,000 (inclusive of annual bonus opportunity up to 20% of base salary)
