About the Role

Position responsible for performing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Physician, contributing to Memorial Hermann's goal of delivering high quality, efficient care and creating exceptional experiences.

Responsibilities

Performs advanced direct and indirect patient care as specified in the skills inventory, in a competent manner, according to the needs/age of the patient/population served.
Assists in planning and implementing direct patient care and documents care provided in the patient medical record.
Assists with the collection of patient/family data, including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, medications, allergies, and environmental information.
Collects and documents vital signs, height/weight, and chief complaint accurately and timely.
Prepares patients for examination, assists providers with treatments/procedures, and performs treatments/procedures.
Calls in prescriptions.
Handles patient phone calls, offers advice, triages appointments, and stocks rooms.
Administers medication as directed using the five rights.
Processes and coordinates referrals and orders for outside tests as directed by a physician.
Reports results to patients as directed by a physician.
Collects specimens.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors.
Adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards.
Promotes individual professional growth and development.
Supports department-based goals.
Serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of the community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences.
Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Ability to understand written instructions and perform basic mathematical calculations.
Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting.
Required knowledge of OSHA and CLIA, HIPAA, general office tasks, and filing systems.

Skills

Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited school
CPR certification
Clinical experience in a designated specialty area preferred
Demonstrates skills for assigned specialty area/function or assigned procedures
