About the Role
We are looking for a talented, passionate, and highly motivated individual to perform wet lab activities. The successful candidate will be proficient in advanced molecular biology and biochemistry methods and will assist with group projects focused on genomic discoveries that may be translated to improve patient care and outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Utilize standardized laboratory techniques and procedures in cell and molecular biology applications.
- Perform routine and specialized histological and immunohistochemical staining.
- Tissue processing, embedding & microtomy of clinical tissue.
- Maintain, passage and cryopreserve cell lines and primary cell cultures.
- Perform Flow cytometry experiments.
- Perform experiments and analysis; communicate and maintain records of experimental data.
- Perform genomics library preparation (RNA, whole genome, exome).
- Process clinical samples.
- Contribute to overall operations of labs including managing inventory and space management.
- Maintain research notebooks and sample management and data entry.
Requirements
- Completion of a BSc degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or related discipline is required.
- Two (2) years related experience is required.
- Two (2) years of demonstrated research experience is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Experience preparing reports.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail.
- Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks.
- Can work well both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to exercise significant independent judgement.
- Ability to perform duties professionally and courteously and produce high-quality results while meeting deadlines by UHN standards.
- Ability to understand and comply with regulatory issues involving human subjects.
- Highly self-motivated.
- Current UHN employees must have successfully completed their probationary period, have a good employee record along with satisfactory attendance in accordance with UHN's attendance management program, to be eligible for consideration.
