About the Role
New Relic's Access & Governance Platform team builds and runs the systems that manage user identity and access control. This involves handling authentication, including login, session management, and enterprise SSO integrations, as well as authorization through roles, capabilities, and grants. The role requires solving complex problems at scale, ensuring system reliability during high traffic and outages, and developing self-service tooling for other engineering teams. On-call responsibilities are part of the role.
Responsibilities
- Use AI coding assistants daily for implementation, debugging, and code review.
- Build and operate authentication services, including SSO (SAML, OIDC), OAuth2/OIDC token issuance, session and token lifecycle, SCIM-based user provisioning, and bot/fraud defense.
- Build APIs and internal tooling for managing and troubleshooting user data and access controls.
- Collaborate with product management, product design, and engineering teams.
- Participate in the team's on-call/hero rotation, triaging incidents and investigating issues.
- Investigate and fix reliability, data-integrity, and security issues in production systems.
- Perform routine dependency and container vulnerability remediation.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience building and shipping reliable software services.
- Expertise in backend languages (Ruby or Java preferred).
- Experience working with data models and managing data at scale.
- Comfort writing and reasoning about SQL against relational databases.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, especially explaining technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort working alongside AI coding assistants for day-to-day development.
