About the Role
The Structural Designer EIT works independently on smaller projects and as a team member on larger projects under the guidance of a Senior Structural Engineer. The role involves performing structural analysis, design, and detailing of steel, concrete, masonry, and timber systems.
Responsibilities
- Complete calculations and drawings for small projects under Senior Engineer’s guidance
- Coordinate with architectural interiors and other engineering disciplines
- Perform Construction Administration duties including field observations, responding to RFIs, submittal reviews, and evaluating contractor change orders
- Perform calculations using company standard and proprietary manufacturer software
- Communicate design issues and solutions with the design team and owner clients
- Understand industry standard design processes and construction means and methods
- Deliver projects on time, on budget, and with a high level of client service within project scope, budgets, and design approach
- Assist with development of design standards
Requirements
- Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting
- Ability to engage in creative and critical thought
- Basic understanding of Revit as a drafting/design tool
- Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas to others
- Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building programs, and other similar materials
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, Component Design Software (e.g., Enercalc), and Finite Element Analysis Software (e.g., RISA and SAP)
- Ability to communicate concepts and ideas effectively both verbally and in writing to architects, engineers, and owner clients
- Basic knowledge and understanding of structural building codes and requirements
- Experience with modeling software (Autodesk Revit)
- Experience with general business software (Microsoft Office suite)
- Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
