About the Role
We are seeking an experienced litigator to join the LAWPRO claims department as Litigation & Repair Counsel. This role involves providing litigation and legal services related to LAWPRO’s errors and omissions program, working with Claims Counsel and insured lawyers to resolve claims against Ontario lawyers. Responsibilities include acting on behalf of insured lawyers in repair matters to rectify errors or reduce liability exposure, defending claims at various litigation stages, and investigating and commencing subrogated claims.
Responsibilities
- Provide litigation and other legal services relating to LAWPRO’s errors and omissions program.
- Work with Claims Counsel and insured lawyers to efficiently resolve claims against Ontario lawyers.
- Act on behalf of an insured lawyer before a legal proceeding has been commenced to rectify an error or reduce exposure to liability in repair matters.
- Be involved in various stages of litigation to assess, strategize, and defend a claim on defence files.
- Investigate and commence subrogated claims on LAWPRO’s behalf under the errors and omissions and TitlePLUS title insurance programs.
Requirements
- Be a keen litigator with a minimum of 7 years of litigation experience.
- Have significant experience in arguing contested motions and/or applications.
- Be able to work independently.
- Be well versed with the Rules of Civil Procedure and Professional Conduct.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Have the ability to prioritize work efficiently and meet applicable deadlines.
- Make effective use of technology.
- Be licensed and in good standing as a lawyer in Ontario.
- Embrace the vision, values and goals of the company as a whole.
