About the Role
This role involves learning and assisting technicians in the installation, service, and troubleshooting of fire alarm systems across residential, commercial, and industrial settings. The apprentice will learn to interpret drawings, pull wire, mount equipment, and maintain a clean work area.
Responsibilities
- Learn by paying attention and participating in all aspects of the fire alarm trade.
- Assist technicians with installation, service, and troubleshooting of fire alarm systems and related equipment.
- Assist technicians with fire alarm system installation in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
- Learn and use project drawings to accurately interpret installation requirements and layout.
- Learn to pull wire, mount back boxes, terminate devices, climb ladders, read blueprints, and maintain a clean work area.
- Use appropriate equipment for specific jobs, such as powered hand tools, lifts, etc.
- Complete all training requirements, including safety and certifications.
- Submit accurate timesheets on time, including job numbers, names, overtime, and travel pay.
- Ensure all required documents are complete, accurate, and professional with required signatures.
- Manage inventory by reviewing, updating, and approving packing slips.
- Maintain and care for equipment, including trucks, lifts, and tools.
- Keep jobsites clean and organized.
- Ensure production efficiency by monitoring labor hours against budget and communicating with supervisors.
- Support and ensure adherence to company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including Purchase Orders and Change Orders.
- Demonstrate timeliness in arrival to jobs, attendance, communication with supervisors, and paperwork.
- Ensure customer satisfaction and respond to feedback for improvement opportunities.
- Maintain quality control to reduce return trips and warranty work.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Communicate effectively and professionally within the department and with internal and external customers.
- Maintain positive interactions within your team and local office.
- Actively participate in required team meetings.
- Be available to work overtime, out of town, or on-call as needed.
Requirements
- Basic math and reading skills.
- Understand and follow basic safety procedures.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform laborious and strenuous work for extended hours.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs or more.
- Ability to work at heights for wiring and installation using harness, scaffold, or lift equipment.
- Good communication skills.
- Sense of pride, integrity, and organizational ability.
- Must enjoy working independently and outdoors.
- Ability to work overtime up to 20 hours per week, if necessary.
