About the Role
Point is seeking a Software Engineer (IC1) to support and grow its multi-product digital platform. This role involves building smaller features within a defined product area to enhance customer experiences, offering an entry point into production engineering and exposure to emerging technologies like AI-assisted workflows.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship smaller, well-scoped features within an established codebase, with guidance from senior engineers.
- Write and test code against acceptance criteria, including unit tests for positive and negative conditions.
- Submit clear, reviewable PRs; review teammates’ code and use feedback for technical growth.
- Work with senior engineers to design solutions for assigned tasks and discuss tradeoffs.
- Participate in sprint planning, grooming, retrospectives, and technical design reviews.
- Communicate progress, risks, and blockers early and often.
- Learn how AI- and data-powered components are used in production systems.
- Write clearly in both informal (Slack, email) and formal (Jira tickets, commit messages, PR descriptions) media.
- Follow team standards for testing, documentation, monitoring, and operational readiness.
- Make minor refactors to keep code clean and clear.
- Estimate own tasks, seek mentorship, and understand the business impact of technical decisions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 0–2 years of professional software engineering experience, including internships or co-op experience, writing object-oriented code.
- Foundational grasp of object-oriented design in at least one object-oriented language.
- Working understanding of data structures and data modeling.
- Ability to break a problem into well-named objects, methods, and responsibilities.
- Some exposure to building or consuming APIs.
- Some exposure to working with a relational database.
- Familiarity with unit testing, including stubbing or mocking dependencies.
- Willingness to build unit testing skills quickly.
- Exposure to customer-facing applications.
- Ability to communicate clearly with teammates.
- Ability to ask questions when product or design requirements are ambiguous.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, balancing quality and speed while learning under guidance.
- Collaborative team player who actively seeks out feedback and mentorship and acts on it.
