About the Role

The Assistant Superintendent I assists the superintendent in the day-to-day field construction activities on assigned jobsite, taking charge of specific construction activities and/or supervision of various crafts.

Responsibilities

Reviews record documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schematics to determine project scope, materials, manpower, and equipment needs.
Plans jobsite layout with superintendent and project manager, initiating startup activities like site security and utility hookups.
Directs field engineers in jobsite survey and layout, ensuring accuracy of control lines and elevations.
Plans daily and weekly craft activities, providing detailed technical instructions and schedule forecasts.
Oversees overall jobsite safety, including implementation of safety plans and procedures.
Orders self-performed building materials, supplies, and small tools.
Inspects all field construction work, ensuring high-quality workmanship and prompt correction of deficiencies.
Provides technical guidance for construction problems and investigates alternative work methods and materials.
Monitors weekly labor costs for accuracy and conformance with budget, taking corrective action to improve productivity.
Monitors equipment use, maintenance, and cost throughout the project.
Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local construction laws, ordinances, and codes.
Manages scheduling of all governmental inspections required for a certificate of occupancy.
Administers the Safety & Health Manual, assuming responsibility for employee health and safety.
Establishes and maintains good working relationships with owners, architects, and other stakeholders.
Performs project completion tasks, including close-out punch lists and as-built documents.
Maintains detailed and accurate daily reports of field construction activities.

Requirements

B.S. in construction management/science, engineering or related field and 2+ years of commercial construction experience, OR 6+ years of commercial construction trade experience in lieu of a college degree.
Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment).
