About the Role

The VEG New ER Doctor (NERD) program is a six-month immersive training program designed to transform practicing veterinarians into exceptional, confident ER doctors. It integrates academic and clinical teachings with individualized mentorship, preparing participants for full-time ER roles at VEG.

Responsibilities

Work side-by-side with experienced VEG doctors for hands-on learning and mentorship through real ER cases.
Gain firsthand ER experience working 3-4 hospital shifts per week (days, swings, and nights).
Participate in weekly case discussions and literature reviews.
Engage in hands-on training at state-of-the-art facilities.
Learn best practices for client-centered communication and care.
Attend over 160 RACE-approved CE hours, including abdominal, thoracic and cardiac point-of care ultrasound, exotic companion animals in the ER, flexible GI endoscopy, small animal emergency surgery, small animal critical care lab, and RECOVER ALS and BLS Rescuer CPR certification.

Requirements

A passion for helping people and their pets.
A valid DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree.
1+ years of experience as a practicing veterinarian.
A desire to live and breathe emergency medicine.
A valid license to practice veterinary medicine and a valid DEA registration in the state of program completion by the start date.
Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with diverse individuals.
Commitment to a predetermined schedule for a consecutive six-month period.
Willingness to relocate for the NERD program.
Ability to provide names and email addresses of one to two references.

Base salary increase to $156,000/year plus production post-program
