About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive estimates for projects involving roads, underground infrastructure, earthworks, aggregates, trucking, and surface mining services. This remote, part-time role offers flexibility and connection to an experienced operations team.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and tender requirements.
- Preparing quantity takeoffs and detailed labour, equipment, material, and subcontractor estimates.
- Obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Working with operations to establish practical construction methods, production rates, and schedules.
- Identifying scope gaps, risks, assumptions, and opportunities to improve competitiveness.
- Preparing bid documents and handing off awarded estimates to the project team.
Requirements
- Five or more years of relevant heavy civil estimating experience.
- Strong knowledge of roadbuilding, earthworks, or underground infrastructure.
- Experience with crushing, aggregates, drilling and blasting, or surface mining is an asset.
- Proficiency in Excel and digital takeoff tools such as Bluebeam.
- Ability to prepare detailed estimates independently, explain assumptions clearly, and meet deadlines.
- Relevant technical education or an equivalent combination of estimating and field experience.
- Professional judgment, discretion, and a commitment to protecting confidential information.
- Daytime availability for coordination and bid closings.
- Occasional travel to Northern Ontario may be required.
- Must disclose outside work that could create a conflict of interest.
