About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Controllers organisation, responsible for general ledger accounting and financial reporting for Trustly entities in the Americas. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical accounting skills and US GAAP expertise, with ownership of the close process and collaboration with auditors, tax, and finance teams.
Responsibilities
- Own the accurate and timely month-end and year-end close for assigned entities, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain the general ledger, ensuring transactions are properly recorded, classified, and supported in accordance with US GAAP.
- Prepare and/or review financial statements and management reporting packages, ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP (and IFRS at Group level where applicable).
- Act as a day-to-day point of contact for external auditors, preparing audit schedules, responding to requests, and helping ensure a smooth and efficient audit process.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, internal accounting policies, and relevant financial controls, and support SOX or other regulatory requirements as applicable.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and analytical reviews, proactively identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, close efficiency, and internal controls.
- Partner with Tax, Treasury, FP&A, and other finance and business teams on accounting matters, technical questions, and cross-functional projects.
Requirements
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with public accounting experience (Big 4 or national accounting firm).
- Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP; experience with IFRS is a plus.
- Public accounting experience (e.g., at a Big 4 or national accounting firm) is a plus.
- Experience managing or supporting external audits.
- Proficiency in accounting software (NetSuite experience preferred) and strong Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, international environment.
