About the Role
The Attorney-in-Charge will oversee the development and execution of the Community Justice Connect program model, supervise Program Managers, and implement programmatic initiatives. This role is responsible for coordinating high-quality, consistent practices across the program, supporting staff with daily operations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure accurate and up-to-date legal information is provided to visitors, with opportunities for brief legal advice.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal expertise and support to volunteers and staff.
- Oversee civil legal training for program volunteers and staff, including developing educational resources.
- Act as the primary point of contact for legal matters arising from visitor issues.
- Provide brief legal advice to visitors on civil areas of law, including eviction, government benefits, child support, and custody.
- Collaborate with the Housing Justice Initiatives Department to develop and implement housing strategies.
- Facilitate conversations with program staff to identify, sustain, and explore new funding sources and develop new initiatives.
- Ensure all program sites meet or exceed program goals.
- Work with leadership on strategic planning and implementation of new programming.
- Oversee the day-to-day budget by establishing quarterly and yearly budget goals.
- Develop and maintain relationships with funders, government officials, community stakeholders, and program leadership.
- Develop and maintain a program-wide marketing strategy, including social media.
- Ensure program staff provide high-quality service to participants across sites.
- Oversee program performance initiatives, including coordination of research, planning, and reporting.
- Assist the Development team in grant management and writing, including reporting to funders.
- Develop procedures and protocols to track and meet program deliverables.
- Directly supervise Program Managers across Connect sites.
- Support Program Managers with operational responsibilities, including supervision of Program Associates and volunteers.
- Oversee the quality of program data and materials, refining workflow and case processing.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure smooth program operations.
- Devise and implement strategies for improving program-wide cohesiveness and interdepartmental communication.
- Undertake other duties assigned by leadership.
- Assist with other Center administrative and leadership responsibilities as needed.
- Perform other relevant tasks as necessary.
Requirements
- J.D. and two years+ professional experience in New York City civil legal systems navigation (housing services, government benefits, family justice, consumer debt, and/or immigration issues).
- 1 year+ supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and managerial skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to social justice and community empowerment.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout employment.
- Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete required employment verification form upon hire.
