About the Role
General Dynamics Electric Boat offers college students practical exposure in the defense industry alongside expert engineers, shaping the future of submarine innovation. Interns will collaborate across departments and with customers to develop solutions for the United States Navy’s nuclear submarines, gaining valuable skills and working on cutting-edge projects like the Columbia Class design and Virginia Class submarines. This program requires an 8-week commitment during the summer 2027 season and involves medical screening, a drug test, and potential DOD investigation.
Responsibilities
- Support D421 Nuclear Quality Control Engineering in reviewing drawings, specifications, and technical work documents for quality and inspection requirements.
- Involve in design integration of quality requirements and construction problem resolution for new construction and maintenance/repair of ships.
- Support D421 Problem Resolution Engineering in formal investigations of unplanned events through learning sessions with Engineering and Operation organizations.
- Support problem resolution process improvements related to procedures and internal databases.
- Support D424 Audit & Assessment in performing surveillances, audits, and assessments for quality oversight.
- Support other quality functions including external audits, corrective action boards, and self-assessments.
- Support D424 Quality Data Analytics in quality data and trend analysis for quality reporting.
- Support Discipline Steering Teams, model development, and system improvements.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- US citizenship is required.
- Must be able to successfully pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
- Must be enrolled full-time at a college or university.
- Students must have completed their Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.
- Must be available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks between May 2027 to September 2027.
- Selected candidates will be responsible for establishing housing and reliable transportation for the duration of their intern assignment.
