About the Role
This position manages and directs trust administration activities across all national trust offices, implementing trust investment policies to drive growth and profitability. It ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and trust documents, while interfacing with clients and stakeholders. The role leads a team of Regional Managers responsible for administrative activities within their regions.
Responsibilities
- Manage Regional Managers and staff.
- Assign goals and responsibilities to Regional Managers to meet the divisional strategy.
- Identify and maintain appropriate workloads for trust account administrators.
- Conduct performance appraisals, hiring, and termination decisions.
- Assist Regional Managers with the largest and most complex trust accounts.
- Confer with clients, administrators, co-trustees, beneficiaries, and attorneys regarding trust establishment, administration, and operation.
- Ensure all tax liabilities and obligations of accounts are met.
- Analyze new trust opportunities to determine company duties and responsibilities.
- Establish, maintain, and revise appropriate service delivery for trust services.
- Direct Regional Managers and staff to gather and submit pertinent facts to the Trust Administration Committee regarding fiduciary discretion.
- Provide guidance to Regional Managers on reviews and proposals for committee consideration.
- Develop and retain personal trust business by maintaining professional and community contacts.
- Assure that trust policies, programs, and procedures are followed.
- Stay abreast of new developments in trust regulation, market strategies, and competitive positioning.
- Interface with Compliance, Risk, and Audit to address, identify, and resolve issues.
- Serve as the initial point of contact for bank channel managers regarding mutual client requests requiring exceptions.
- Act as a change champion for administrative matters regarding process.
- Interface with Bank colleagues, relationship managers, team leaders, and business development officers on trust sales related issues.
- Be responsible and accountable for appropriate quality controls related to services delivered by Trust colleagues.
- Be responsible for risk and compliance test results and monitoring exceptions regarding administration.
- Provide all City National products, financial solutions, and services ethically and with integrity, consistent with a client-first culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in trust administration with strong working knowledge of all types of trusts.
- CTFA, JD, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to travel 50% of the time.
- Comprehensive knowledge of personal trust laws and regulations, state tax laws, and income taxation with respect to trust investment management principles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills sufficient to interact with all levels of Bank Personnel and clients.
- Reporting into a designated City National location is an essential function of the job unless otherwise indicated as fully remote.
