About the Role
Anthropic is seeking an empathetic engineering manager to lead a team focused on building internal tools for security, authorization, and automation, enhancing employee productivity. This role involves collaborating with internal users to define needs and direct solutions, often integrating Claude for improved user experience and impact. The Business Technology team is dedicated to providing thoughtful, user-friendly solutions that enable employees to work efficiently and securely at scale, contributing to Anthropic's mission of creating safe and beneficial AI systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of engineers building full-stack internal tools for business-critical use cases
- Partner with different teams to deeply understand their workflows and identify opportunities for improved productivity through engineering
- Set technical direction and prioritize roadmap initiatives that drive the most impact for internal users
- Foster a culture of rapid iteration, user feedback, and continuous improvement within the team
- Champion best practices in API design, security, and user experience across the team
- Monitor system reliability, build for operational excellence, and own incident response processes
- Hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering
- 2+ years in an engineering management role
- Track record of building and shipping production full-stack software with a focus on usability
- Experience leading teams building and maintaining scalable internal applications and platforms
- Skilled at translating ambiguous user needs into clear technical direction and priorities
- Communicate with empathy and strive to build strong relationships with stakeholders and direct reports alike
- Experience building engineering roadmaps and aligning them with broader business objectives
- Track record of developing engineers through coaching, mentoring, and structured feedback
- Experience balancing trade-offs across security, privacy, reliability, and user experience at scale
- Experience with Identity and Access Management tools and security best practices
- Excel at cross-functional collaboration and building alignment across teams with differing priorities
- Experience anticipating changing business needs and translating them into adaptive technical strategies
