About the Role

The Enrichment & Pre-K Aftercare Support Aide plays a vital role in supporting student safety, behavior management, and active engagement across multiple grade levels. This part-time role bridges elementary enrichment instruction and early childhood aftercare support, working Monday through Friday from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a dedicated classroom aide to the K-2 Enrichment Dance Teacher.
  • Maintain active scholar oversight to ensure students remain safe, focused, and on task during dance instruction.
  • Assist and lead orderly classroom transitions to and from the enrichment classroom.
  • Proactively manage student behavior and address immediate student needs so the enrichment teacher can focus entirely on class instruction.
  • Supervise and monitor Pre-K scholars during the afternoon aftercare program.
  • Ensure all scholars safely receive and enjoy their afternoon snack.
  • Plan, organize, and execute engaging, age-appropriate activities to keep Pre-K scholars active, learning, and positively engaged.
  • Maintain a structured, warm, and safe environment through daily student dismissal.
  • Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds, characters, and lives of students both in and out of school.
  • Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior aligned with school culture.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Participate in annual staff orientation and school training sessions as required.

Requirements

  • Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom.
  • Evidence of self-motivation, willingness to be a team player, and a strong sense of personal responsibility.
  • Ideal candidates are hard-working, urgent, energetic, and willing to learn and adapt.
  • Flexible and comfortable managing dynamic classroom environments.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to multitask.
  • Strong organizational, communication (particularly with young children), and problem-solving skills.
  • Prior experience working with elementary or early childhood students in schools or community settings preferred.
  • Relentless commitment to the mission of educating urban students; belief in and alignment with Uncommon’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.
