About the Role
The Solar Technician III is the most experienced field position, performing both electrical and mechanical services. The primary objective is to ensure all equipment serviced operates at the highest level while providing leadership and training to other field positions.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate integrity, initiative, work ethic, and a commitment to safety and quality on all tasks assigned.
- Complete all required safety training.
- Ensure all safety policies and procedures are reviewed and understood before work begins.
- Attend and participate in weekly safety meetings.
- Oversee, provide direction, and training to Solar Technicians 1 and 2.
- Ensure all required Personnel Protective Equipment is received, inspected, and utilized in accordance with safety policies.
- Perform Preventive and Corrective Maintenance on solar, energy storage, and EV charging installations.
- Troubleshoot solar, energy storage, and EV charging installations to determine root cause and required repairs.
- Complete all assigned tasks safely, correctly, and within the allotted time.
- Ensure all provided vehicles, tools, equipment, electronics, and parts are accounted for, well-maintained, and properly stored.
- Accurately complete all required documentation, checklists, timecards, and photography for work performed.
- Complete other duties and tasks as assigned by a direct supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background and motor vehicle record check.
- Ability to communicate in English both orally and writing.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Basic computer operation skills and familiarity with internet-based program navigation.
- Proven experience understanding and implementing OSHA regulations.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand basic design drawings and schematics.
- Intermediate to advanced electrical theory knowledge.
- Knowledge of and ability to perform and interpret IV Curve tracing.
- Ability to drive a vehicle.
- Availability to work on weekends as part of on-call rotations.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to walk distances up to 5 miles in a day.
- Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, maintaining 3 points of contact.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make sound discriminations.
- Ability to maintain body equilibrium while walking, standing, crouching, and transitioning levels on various surfaces.
- Required to have visual acuity including depth perception, field of vision, and the ability to distinguish between colors.
- Ability to work in outside environments with extreme heat (above 100℉) or extreme cold (below 32℉) for extended periods.
- Ability to exert up to 60 pounds of force occasionally, up to 40 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Drive up to 6 hours per day to reach and return from project locations.
- Travel up to 50% of the time outside of the service area.
- Work outside in the environment up to 90% of the time, performing Preventive and Corrective Maintenances.
- Work in a fast-changing environment requiring quick decisions with limited processes and procedures.
