About the Role

The Referral Transcriptionist – Medical Record Coordinator is responsible for accurately transcribing referrals from external providers, reviewing medical record history to interpret radiological hazards, and identifying STAT Referrals. This role ensures timely and accurate scheduling by routing external referrals and obtaining necessary medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Transcribe incoming referrals into orders in Epic with high accuracy for appropriate routing.
  • Interpret referral information for accurate diagnosis and medical data, reviewing medical history for patient safety regarding implants.
  • Contact external provider offices and hospitals to obtain medical records for new visits and specialty referrals.
  • Manage returned mail, follow up with provider offices for accurate patient information, and update Epic.
  • Reconcile incoming medical records for completeness and upload to the patient’s encounter in Epic.
  • Demonstrate effective teamwork through positive interaction, open communication, and offering assistance to colleagues.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
  • Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in customer service; 3–5 years of direct customer/patient experience with expectation of high accuracy of detailed information.
  • Ability to manage high volume and quick turnaround of information needs.
  • Understanding of medical record information and medical terminology required.
  • Ability to handle high volume workload and stressful environment.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to engage patients/customers calmly and respectfully, regardless of their tone or attitude.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with minimal error.
  • Ability to interpret information and transcribe.
  • Computer literacy with strong keyboard skills; ability to manage fax transmittals via PDF software.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
