About the Role

The Emergency Department Access Specialist II role involves all duties of the EDAS I, with the added responsibility of onboarding and precepting new hires or colleagues requiring frequent support. This position may require adjusted work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Train job-specific responsibilities post-completion of The Academy, including all Emergency Department disciplines and providing constructive feedback.
  • Ensure accurate patient identification in high-stress situations as a patient safety measure.
  • Perform bedside registration, including collecting demographic and insurance information, obtaining signatures for regulatory forms, and gathering Medicare MSPQ information.
  • Verify insurance at the bedside, obtaining additional information for No Fault or Worker’s Compensation cases.
  • Assess and assign appropriate health insurance plans and collect copayments at the bedside.
  • Interact effectively with external agency personnel, including EMS, Law Enforcement, and Correction Facilities.
  • Capture patient pharmacy information to expedite discharge.
  • Answer multi-line telephones calmly, courteously, and respectfully.
  • Capture brief information via ambulance radio, including patient description, age, chief complaint, and vital signs.
  • Manage the ED Patient Tracker and complete assigned tasks.
  • Verify laboratory specimens and ensure timely delivery to the laboratory.
  • Manage daily workflow during system downtimes, following downtime procedures.
  • Ensure EMTALA Regulations are maintained.
  • Triage walk-in patients, collect data, enter information into the ADT System, apply patient wristbands, and obtain regulatory signatures.
  • Complete full patient registration, including consents and financial responsibility collection, if seen by a provider.
  • Accurately identify patients in the ADT system, especially when identification is missing.
  • Answer a 10-line telephone system and manage inquiries.
  • Discharge patients via the patient medical record.
  • Verify laboratory specimens for accurate labeling by nursing or provider.
  • Perform bedside registration, collecting demographic information, insurance details, regulatory consent forms, and financial responsibility.
  • Shadow and answer EMS Radio calls, providing brief patient descriptions (age, complaint, vital signs) to ambulance agencies.
  • Manage UNKNOWN Patient policy and procedure.
  • Onboard and precept new hires or colleagues needing additional support.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
  • Ability to keep composure in a high-stress environment.
  • Ability to train peers and new hires.
  • Ability to multi-task in stressful and high patient volume units.
  • Demonstrated ability to train the adult learner on the job post-completion of The Academy.
  • Ability to assess adult learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Good judgment and resourcefulness for problem-solving and escalating issues.
  • Ability to manage contained blood, urine, and other bodily fluids.
  • Ability to handle a multi-line telephone system and paging.
  • Ability to push 35-50 lb WOW.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods.
  • Completion of Learning Partner module.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.

Salary/Compensations

  • $46,215.00 - $60,080.00
