About the Role
The Segment Leader has overall responsibility for the civic and governmental market segment, providing strategic direction and leadership to account management teams serving public-sector clients. This role involves identifying, developing, and executing segment initiatives and client deliverables to maintain a competitive edge and support the business. A strong understanding of the unique operating, procurement, compliance, budgeting, and collaborator requirements of municipalities and government entities is essential.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership team to assess staffing needs, develop client deliverables, and make decisions for the Municipal and Government segment.
- Drive business results with the Senior Leadership team, focusing on revenue growth, operational efficiencies, and margin improvement within the public-sector market.
- Ensure consistency across teams serving municipal and government clients regarding accuracy, execution, timely delivery, and adherence to NFP standards.
- Lead account teams to deliver services in accordance with client scopes, public-sector requirements, and service expectations, maintaining client experience and competitive position.
- Develop and manage relationships with key client stakeholders, carrier representatives, and partners supporting municipal and government entities.
- Participate in strategic client meetings, including stewardship and strategy discussions, and serve as an executive sponsor.
- Monitor municipal and government market developments, including procurement practices, budget cycles, and regulatory considerations, translating them into client and team strategies.
- Provide strategic mentorship for proposals, renewals, implementations, and other public-sector client deliverables.
- Develop a team through coaching, mentoring, performance appraisal, and problem resolution.
- Participate in interviewing candidates, hiring, and onboarding processes.
- Assist in training and assessing employees for promotions.
- Perform other duties as assigned and exercise independent judgment.
- Ensure adherence to the organization's policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Experience leading account management for municipal, government, or other public-sector clients is strongly preferred.
- Life, Accident and Health Insurance License required.
Skills
- Solid understanding of benefits brokerage and consulting, including benefits administration, compliance, benefits financing, industry trends, and carrier products and services.
- Ability to translate public-sector requirements and market developments into practical client strategies, service models, and team priorities.
- Ability to work independently and anticipate business, client, and team needs.
- Effective time management and decision-making skills.
- Diligent follow-up skills.
- Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications, including with elected officials, boards, administrators, and other public-sector collaborators.
