About the Role
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) assists the General Manager (GM) or Multi-Unit General Manager (MUGM) in managing hotel day-to-day operations, assuring optimum performance and continual improvement in guest and associate satisfaction. The AGM provides hands-on management of hourly staff, including scheduling, directing, and overseeing daily activities and training, while promoting an exceptional workplace. The AGM also ensures safety and security procedures are in place according to company guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates and promotes 100% commitment to providing the best possible experience for guests.
- Become trained in all managerial functions and operations at the hotel level.
- Ensures all associates are properly onboarded, trained, and complete ESU required training timely.
- Promotes compliance with company policies and procedures, including prompt reporting of safety and security issues.
- Upholds and drives compliance with policies, rules, and standards at the property level.
- Ensures associates are driving company initiatives to increase revenue, lower costs, and increase guest and associate satisfaction.
- Serves as the first level of management contact for guest service issues and resolves them in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates professionalism and embraces ESA's service culture, treating all guests and associates with respect and kindness.
- Engages in daily interaction with guests to identify quality lead generation and assist with future travel needs.
- Assists in maximizing revenues and flow through to GOP to meet or exceed budgeted EBITDA.
- Assists the GM/MUGM with interviewing, onboarding, and training new associates.
- Provides direct supervision and involvement with all associates to promote a positive work environment.
- Actively participates in daily team meetings and staff interactions to foster continuous improvement.
- Assists the GM in budgetary control measures, including labor monitoring, scheduling, and expense control.
- Ensures associates have the necessary tools to execute their jobs.
- Serves as the manager on duty in the absence of the GM/MUGM.
- Inspects guest rooms.
- Completes Guest Ready and visual inspections, and assigns daily arrival reservations.
- Provides relief and back-up duties as needed, including front desk coverage and housekeeping.
- Manages the purchase order process, ordering, and receiving products.
- Assists GM/MUGM in monitoring cash management, in-house guest balances, and direct bill receivables compliance.
- Assists with hotel sales activities, including Soar leads.
- Actively reviews and monitors social media websites for timely and appropriate responses.
- Ensures that clean rooms, guest, and associate satisfaction are top priorities.
Requirements
- Prior hotel experience in a hospitality or retail establishment is required.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership ability is desired.
- Some job-related college level courses preferred.
Skills
- Solid fluency in English for reading, writing, and verbal communication.
- Ability to operate property management system technology, including shift reports and audit functions.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
- Supervisory skills to oversee daily activities of 8 to 15 hourly staff.
- Ability to organize multiple priorities to ensure peak operational efficiency.
- Ability to remain stationary, navigate the hotel and parking lot, reach, handle, and detect objects.
- Ability to detect scent and sounds.
- Ability to occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch.
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, lift, and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in outside weather conditions.
- Ability to work in wet humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, in the presence of fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
- Ability to work in moderate to loud noise levels.
- Ability to travel to assist additional locations or cover sites during manager's absence.
Experience Level
- Prior hotel experience in a hospitality or retail establishment is required.
- One to three months related experience and/or training.
- Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
