About the Role

We are seeking an experienced payments and regulatory lawyer to lead our global payments platform across APAC, focusing on Australia, Singapore, and New Zealand. This role involves building the legal and regulatory infrastructure for Rippling’s financial cloud product and supporting product launches in key growth markets. You will collaborate with various internal teams on payments initiatives and drive the compliance culture by embedding practical legal advice into product development and operations.

  • Lead legal and regulatory support for Rippling’s payments and financial-services products across APAC, with a focus on Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.
  • Counsel product and business teams on new payments product launches, payment flows, licensing strategy, regulatory obligations, customer disclosures, marketing, and operational controls.
  • Advise on licensing and authorization applications, regulator interactions, supervisory inquiries, regulatory filings, and ongoing obligations under payments and financial-services licenses.
  • Monitor and interpret payments, AML/CFT, stored value, e-money, cross-border transfer, FX, and related regulatory developments across APAC, and translate them into practical guidance for stakeholders.
  • Build scalable legal review processes, launch-readiness frameworks, and compliance-by-design practices for new and evolving payments products.
  • Manage external counsel across APAC jurisdictions and synthesize local-law advice into practical recommendations for product and business teams.
  • Support launches beyond APAC as needed, partnering with global legal colleagues, compliance teams, and local counsel.

Requirements

  • 6+ years experience in a payments legal role (money transmission, e-money/stored value, banking-as-a-service, remittance or general fintech)
  • Strong understanding of the payments ecosystem and regulatory environment in APAC jurisdictions, such as Singapore and/or Australia), including payment and AML/CFT regulations
  • Experience advising on licensing or authorization applications, regulator engagement, regulatory filings, license conditions, and ongoing compliance obligations
  • Experience counseling product and engineering teams on regulated product launches and converting legal requirements into practical implementation guidance
  • Experience building trusted relationships and an ability to collaborate with senior stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to break down complex requirements into easy-to-understand and practical advice
  • Ability to work with multiple deadlines under pressure
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, self-starting, and comfortable working in a highly dynamic and complex global organisational environment
