About the Role

Black & Veatch has an exciting role for a Construction Management Practice Leader in the Southern California region. This prominent leadership position works across Southern California Operations, the National Program Management/Construction Management Solutions Group, and National Construction Operations. The role requires a self-starter with excellent communication, business acumen, and interpersonal skills to expand our regional presence, win new work, drive industry-leading CM project performance, and build a best-in-market Construction Management practice.

Responsibilities

Lead and support Capture in collaboration with BV Client Directors of CM Projects in the region, including pre-selling BV COM services, client engagement, proposal/bid development, and presentations.
Provide construction management practice leadership and technical support to clients and Construction Management teams on active contracts.
Mentor and expand construction management resources in the region.
Strengthen earned revenue and profitability on construction management projects.
Coordinate with Construction Operations Leaders nationally on construction management staffing and execution doctrines.
Support national leadership in expanding construction management tools and resources.
Strengthen the brand of Black & Veatch's 3rd Party Construction Management service offering in Northern California by maintaining external market visibility.
Serve as an internal champion for Construction Management with local Southern California offices leadership.
Support the development of Construction Management based on thought leadership and innovation.
Build strong client relationships with both internal and external clients.
Lead or support early Construction Management opportunity identification, pursuit and capture plans, strategy development, and pre-positioning.
Build effective relationships with teaming partners.
Identify gaps and suggest improvements to current tools and processes.
Identify and develop resources that support the execution of Construction Management.
Serve in the project role of Project Director, Program Manager, or Construction Manager on major projects.
Assist with the development and implementation of Business Plans and Client Capture Plans.
Provide marketing and business development leadership through opportunity identification, evaluation, teaming, and strategy development.
Lead and support proposals and projects execution.
Support participation in professional society activities with technical advice and presentations.
Be visible in the construction industry and promote various Communities of Practice.
Assume the role of Project Director and Project Manager with assigned clients, pursuits, and projects.
Be the Champion for recruiting professionals and understand departmental hiring plans.
Play a leadership role in developing a region hiring plan, identifying candidates, and leading recruiting efforts.
Provide stable leadership to staff through mentoring and coordinating staff assignments.
Support Regions and Client Directors/Project Managers to achieve project goals for safety, quality, financial profitability, and technical performance.
Develop annual goals and Individual Development Plans for assigned professionals.
Actively participate in project execution on an assigned basis.
Acts as a project manager, including management of a project team.

Requirements

All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
BS degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
20+ years of Construction Management delivery of major infrastructure project experience.
20+ years of client business development and proposal development.
Served as the Construction Manager in the delivery of major infrastructure construction projects greater than $100M in construction costs.
Professional Engineering (PE) License in California Required.
CMAA Certified Construction Manager (CCM) preferred.
Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Certificate preferred.
Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
Ability to utilize video/audio conferencing software tools for internal/external communication.
Travel to client sites.
