About the Role

The Manager, BCM is responsible for owning the Blue Rewards Business Continuity Management program. This includes updating, amending, and reviewing critical documentation annually, liaising with internal departments and BMO counterparts, and conducting training and exercises to test plans and identify gaps. The role also involves Incident Commander responsibilities with 24/7 Incident Response and Management, and Change Manager duties including CR review, assessment, and approval.

Responsibilities

  • Update, amend, and review Business Impact Assessments, Business Continuity Plans, Crisis Management Plan, and IT Disaster Recovery Plan annually.
  • Liaise with internal departments and coordinate with BMO counterparts to ensure plans meet business, regulatory, and audit requirements.
  • Conduct training and live exercises to test plans and responses, documenting and resolving identified gaps.
  • Perform Incident Commander responsibilities, including 24/7 Incident Response and Management on a rotational basis.
  • Fulfill Change Manager duties, including 7.5/5 Change Request (CR) Review, Assessment, and Approval for production system implementations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance on Business Continuity Management (BCM) Frameworks to mitigate risk.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Projects and Recovery Capabilities.
  • Ensure Business Continuity Planning/Event Management compliance with internal/external regulatory policies and guidelines.
  • Foster a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values, and strategy, and role model BMO values and behaviours.
  • Build interdependent teams that collaborate across functional and operating groups.
  • Attract, retain, and enable the career development of top talent.
  • Manage BCP/Event Management/Disaster Recovery programs.
  • Provide guidance and support to senior leaders on the development of Business Continuity recovery plans.
  • Coordinate the implementation and facilitation of BCP solutions.
  • Engage in Incident Response Team representing Enterprise BCM.
  • Lead Business Continuity related projects, audits, and examinations.
  • Keep abreast of business continuity planning industry standards, best practices, regulatory trends, and FFIEC guidelines.
  • Provide specialized consulting, analytical, and technical support.
  • Exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Take measured risks while protecting the bank by applying the Risk Management Framework.
  • Design and produce regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
  • Ensure quarterly reporting deliverables and participate in the presentation of results and trend reporting.
  • Build change management plans of varying scope and type.
  • Lead or participate in defining the communication plan designed to positively influence or change behaviour.
  • Initiate and manage the event status monitoring and reporting.
  • Provide input into the planning and implementation of operational programs.
  • Execute work to deliver timely, accurate, and efficient service.

Requirements

  • Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing, with all levels within BLUE REWARDS.
  • Solid analytical skills: ability to produce, analyze and provide insights for BCM reports and metrics.
  • Demonstrates Adaptability and can support and direct others during times of crisis.
  • Train / educate others on the BCM processes, advocate for collaborative participation.
  • Participates in Audit and Compliance activities.
  • Provides support to an assigned business/group regarding Business Continuity Management (BCM) Frameworks.
  • Works with designated groups to ensure critical processes are in place in the event of a significant business interruption.
  • Regularly connects work to BMO’s purpose, sets inspirational goals, defines clear expected outcomes, and ensures clear accountability for follow through.
  • Improves team performance, recognizes and rewards performance, coaches employees, supports their development, and manages poor performance.
  • Provides guidance for mid-sized to large enterprise-wide BCM initiatives and event management incidents.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to assigned business/group.
  • Influences and negotiates to achieve business objectives.
  • Recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.
  • Assists in the development of strategic plans.
  • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
  • Leads the development, maintenance and management of the LOB Incident Management and Recovery Process.
  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Helps determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal & external stakeholders to execute work and fulfill service delivery expectations.
  • Represents business/group on jurisdictional / enterprise response, recovery and status team in the event of a business interruption incident.
  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Manages databases and provides support for analysis, forecasting and/or data visualization, ensuring adherence with data governance standards.
  • Coordinates the management of databases; ensures alignment and integration of data in adherence with data governance standards.
  • Monitors and tracks performance, and addresses any issues.
  • Supports the implementation of the Business Continuity, Problem/Event/Recovery Management Frameworks for designated businesses/groups.
  • Works with internal stakeholders to manage the business continuity plan review, training and testing requirements.
  • Supports the business/group with business continuity impact assessments.
  • Coordinates the responses of the affected business units in support of the Crisis activities.
  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
