About the Role

The Chief of Staff acts as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to the Chief Executive, providing executive and operational support, coordinating cross-organizational priorities, and delivering strategic projects. This role ensures the smooth running of the DA Board and governance forums, prepares high-quality briefings and reports, and oversees organizational performance measurement.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to the Chief Executive.
  • Provide high-level executive and operational support.
  • Coordinate cross-organizational priorities.
  • Deliver defined strategic projects.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the DA Board and broader governance forums.
  • Prepare high-quality briefings, reports, and speeches on behalf of the Chief Executive.
  • Ensure Executive Committee meetings are well-run, with clear action documentation and follow-up.
  • Lead organizational performance measurement and reporting.
  • Define and agree performance measures with the Executive and Board.
  • Report on organizational performance on a regular basis.
  • Lead a team of Executive Assistants, mentoring and developing individuals.
  • Enable the Chief Executive to focus on strategic leadership by ensuring smooth operational activities.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in developing and sustaining relationships at a senior level.
  • Pro-active approach to identifying and resolving problems.
  • Politically astute.
  • Previous experience in a role requiring upward challenge and holding senior leaders accountable.
  • Excellent understanding of the political and stakeholder environment in which the Delivery Authority operates.
  • Must pass security vetting to a minimum Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) level.
  • May not be eligible for vetting if residing outside the UK for more than two of the last five years (depending on the role).
