About the Role
The Automotive Technician is responsible for performing vehicle repair and maintenance work as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards. They will also oversee the work of any apprentice technician assigned to them.
Responsibilities
- Receive repair orders and take to stall area.
- Perform work as outlined in repair order with efficiency and accuracy.
- Diagnose and repair vehicle malfunctions.
- Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Save and tag parts for warranty or customer requests.
- Examine vehicles for additional safety or service needs.
- Advise service advisor/Team Leader of additional work needed, unneeded work, or repair time discrepancies.
- Document work performed.
- Road-test vehicles as required.
- Supervise apprentice technicians as assigned.
- Attend factory-sponsored training classes.
- Stay updated on factory technical bulletins.
- Ensure customer vehicles are kept clean.
- Maintain a neat shop area and account for all dealership tools.
- Adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal.
- Be familiar with MSDS location and information.
- Wear and use provided protective items.
- Perform quality checks on work performed.
- Maintain CSI in top 10% of group.
- Adhere to dealership policies and manufacturer specifications.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED).
- Knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance.
- Valid New York State Driver License.
Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
- Working knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repairs.
- Ability to interpret vendor catalogs.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repairs, and maintenance.
- Time-management and organizational abilities.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Attention to detail.

Experience Level
- Experienced Technicians
- Up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 70 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED
- ASE certification preferred
