About the Role
The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is a global team of experts focused on the financial landscape and challenges faced by financial institutions. We provide unique financial solutions to clients in sectors including Banks, Investment Managers and Funds, Insurance Companies, and Specialty Finance Companies. The FIG team offers corporate financing and partners with various SMBC Group business units to deliver a wide range of products such as Capital Markets, Sales and Trading, Trade Finance, Structured Financing, FX/Derivatives, and Operational services.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a strong team-oriented mindset and collaborate effectively with colleagues across product groups, industry teams, and geographic regions.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously with accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
- Partner with the Insurance Client Coverage team on debt capital markets origination efforts.
- Collaborate with Banking, Advisory, and Global Markets professionals to deepen client relationships, identify opportunities, and drive new business development.
- Originate, approve, and execute corporate lending transactions, including deal structuring, pricing, term sheet negotiation, financial modeling and analytics, credit and risk analysis, profitability assessment, capital allocation, legal documentation review, and portfolio monitoring.
- Develop an understanding of insurance company accounting, rating agency, and regulatory capital frameworks.
- Build expertise in insurance company capital structures and leverage considerations, focusing on rating agency methodologies and the treatment of debt, hybrid, and contingent capital instruments.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in corporate finance, corporate banking, debt capital markets, investment banking, ratings advisory, or a related field at a leading financial institution or rating agency.
- Strong financial modeling, analytical, and quantitative skills.
- Ability to assess credit, capital, and liquidity profiles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prepare client presentations, credit memoranda, and transaction-related materials.
- Experience within the insurance sector is preferred.
- Candidates with broader financial institutions or corporate banking experience will also be considered.
- Demonstrated interest in insurance markets, capital structures, and strategic financing solutions.
- Employees must live within a reasonable commuting distance of their office location.
