About the Role

The role involves analyzing the existing Aurora landscape, deriving action requirements, developing sound decision bases, and implementing agreed-upon measures. This position combines architectural consulting, technical strategy, and operational modernization of the existing Aurora system landscape.

Responsibilities

Analyze and develop the existing Aurora application landscape regarding its future strategic, functional, and technical orientation.
Identify, document, and prioritize technical debt within the Aurora system landscape and further develop the overall architecture.
Analyze the existing Aurora system landscape (client, server, infrastructure components) regarding architecture, maintainability, technical risks, and future viability.
Identify, document, and prioritize technical debt, including deriving concrete action packages for technical consolidation and modernization.
Collect and document dependencies between individual Aurora components and adjacent systems like Polarion.
Evaluate existing software components regarding their future functional and technical necessity and develop recommendations for replacement, consolidation, or further development.
Create architecture, modernization, and decision templates for business units, product owners, managers, and other stakeholders.
Conduct impact analyses and economic feasibility studies for architectural decisions.
Design target architectures considering maintainability, operational capability, scalability, and security requirements.
Coordinate architectural proposals with development teams, product owners, and other stakeholders.
Manage and support the technical implementation of agreed-upon measures within the Aurora application landscape.
Perform refactorings and architectural improvements in existing applications.
Create and maintain architecture and system documentation, as well as technical decision documentation (ADR).
Support the planning of roadmaps for the technical further development of the platform.
Support risk analysis for outdated technologies, libraries, frameworks, and infrastructure components.
Regularly exchange information on progress, risks, dependencies, and action requirements with responsible stakeholders and managers.
Provide technical guidance for technical implementations without disciplinary decision-making authority.

Requirements

Successful completion of a degree at a cooperative state university (Berufsakademie) or a Bachelor's or Master's program at a University of Applied Sciences or University in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business Informatics, Computer Engineering, or comparable fields.
At least 8 years of relevant professional experience in software development and software architecture.
At least 5 years of experience in analyzing, designing, and developing complex application landscapes.
Experience in modernizing existing applications and managing technical debt.
Experience in creating architectural concepts as well as decision and management templates.
Proficiency in handling complex tasks and problems with high functional and technical dependencies.
Ability to independently analyze existing software systems and derive sustainable architectural measures.
In-depth knowledge of software architecture methods and architecture management.
Demonstrable experience in evaluating and reducing technical debt.
Experience with client-server architectures, distributed systems, and service-oriented architectures.
Experience in conducting system and architecture reviews.
Knowledge of architecture modeling and documentation (e.g., Arc42, C4 Model, ADR).
Experience in creating target states, migration strategies, and transformation concepts.
Knowledge of agile development methodologies (Scrum, SAFe).
Experience with requirements management and stakeholder management.
Good knowledge of modern development and build environments (Git, GitLab, Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus).
Knowledge of modern software technologies and architectural patterns (Java, Spring Boot, REST, Microservices, Docker).
Experience in handling legacy systems and their gradual modernization.
Ability to explain complex technical issues understandably to management and business decision-makers.
