About the Role
The Public Health Adviser-I will be assigned to one of the Bureau's clinics and report directly to the Clinic Manager. This role supports the Bureau of Public Health Clinics-Sexually Transmitted Infections in its mission to improve the sexual health of all New Yorkers by providing direct clinic services, monitoring disease trends, and conducting research.
Responsibilities
- Perform clerical duties to aid in registration, greeting, and clinic flow.
- Document intake information collected at triage in the Electronic Medical Records.
- Set up collection room and ensure appropriate guidelines are followed.
- Prepare collection room for specimen drop off, processing, and transport.
- Perform clerical functions, including registration, INSTI antibody finger stick reading, phlebotomy, and posting laboratory results.
- Assist with inventory supply maintenance and prepare e-order forms.
- Document all necessary forms, including e-forms, and complete documentation for all specimen types.
- Assist site supervisor and DIS/SPHA with related duties.
Requirements
- Must be a permanent employee in the title or reachable on the Public Health Adviser Civil Service list.
- Satisfactory completion of training in phlebotomy or other necessary procedures may be required for certain assignments.
- Certification in HIV counseling may be required for certain assignments.
- Public Health Advisers are required to have an annual health assessment.

Education Level
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences.
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and six months of full-time satisfactory experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program.
- Four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and four years of full-time satisfactory experience.
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications.
