About the Role
We are looking for a Product Owner to own the product roadmap and backlog for the UniqPay platform, focusing on acquiring, payouts, currency conversion, and risk. You will be the voice of the merchant, acquirer, and regulator within the engineering process, owning scope and acceptance for every sprint. This role sits between Engineering, Compliance, Operations, and Sales, translating demand, constraints, and obligations into a prioritized roadmap and detailed specifications. Prior hands-on product experience in regulated industries and international markets is mandatory.
Responsibilities
- Own and maintain the product roadmap for acquiring, payouts, FX, and risk, balancing merchant demand, commercial priority, technical debt, and regulatory obligation.
- Write clear, testable user stories and acceptance criteria covering payment edge cases like declines, retries, cascading, chargebacks, partial settlements, and FX.
- Lead sprint planning, refinement, and review, acting as the single decision-maker on scope and acceptance, tracking delivery, and making early trade-offs.
- Translate licensing conditions, KYC/KYB rules, AML monitoring, data residency, and scheme requirements into product requirements for each jurisdiction, and re-scope the backlog as rules change.
- Conduct structured discovery with regulated merchants and acquiring/banking partners, building market-specific knowledge of local payment methods and settlement rails.
- Lead the product side of PSP, acquirer, and merchant integrations, including API specifications, timelines, and channel configuration.
- Define and track key metrics such as approval rates, latency, settlement accuracy, onboarding time to live, and merchant retention to guide prioritization.
- Manage launch readiness and post-launch/post-incident reviews, converting lessons learned into backlog items or process changes.
Requirements
- 4 to 6 years in product ownership or product management.
- At least 2 years shipping payments or fintech products for iGaming, Crypto, or FX merchants across international markets.
- Understanding of how merchants make and lose money, including cascading, approval rates, on/off ramp flows, and settlement/margin dynamics in regulated industries.
- Direct experience applying licensing, KYC/KYB, AML, data residency, and card scheme rules in product design across multiple jurisdictions.
- Hands-on ownership of an agile backlog, including writing stories, running ceremonies, and accountability for sprint outcomes.
- Comfort working with engineers on API-driven products and third-party integrations, with the ability to interpret sequence diagrams or API logs.
- Ability to clearly decline requests and explain prioritization decisions to diverse stakeholders.
- Experience sitting across from a regulator, auditor, or card scheme during a license application, audit, or review is a bonus.
- Experience launching a product into a new country or corridor, including dealing with local payment methods and rules, is a bonus.
- Experience building a product function at an early-stage company is a bonus.
