About the Role

MSA Safety is seeking a passionate, motivated, and driven Quality and Safety Manager to lead EHS results and advance safety culture at our Baulkham Hills NSW Australia manufacturing plant. This role is responsible for end-to-end quality management, ensuring products meet specified requirements and driving continual improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead team to achieve expected EHS results and advance safety culture at ANZ site.
  • Manage end-to-end quality management, including supplier quality, manufacturing process quality, customer quality notices, and ISO9001 quality system management.
  • Apply quality control methods and tools such as PFMEA/5W/8D/Cause-Effect Diagram/SPC.
  • Define, develop, and document quality systems, processes, and procedures to ensure products meet specified requirements and enforce policies.
  • Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 certification and maintain audit-ready documentation.
  • Oversee quality procedures and processes of all manufactured products, conduct inspection, and manage traceability.
  • Perform Quality Compliance inspections, including water purity checks, hat testing, and air testing.
  • Drive continual Quality Improvement efforts, Non-conformance, and Product Defects reporting.
  • Lead team to drive scrap cost reduction using problem-solving tools and poke-yoke methods.
  • Manage supplier quality, including supplier audits and CI SQN.
  • Establish supplier scorecard performance measures for quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
  • Drive customer satisfaction improvements in quality by leading Kaizen initiatives.
  • Conduct investigative reviews of customer complaints and manage customer quality complaints (CQN).
  • Provide quick turnover on warranty claims, including appropriate documentation for credit.
  • Strictly control licensed and certified products.
  • Control and issue Certificate of Conformance on all certified products.
  • Align Quality Assurance procedures with the Long Range Planning of Operations.
  • Act as the site Health, Safety & Environment Representative in ANZ.
  • Provide Environment Health & Safety guidance and compliance support to site management.
  • Advocate health & safety to all staff across all functional departments.
  • Evaluate facility EHS conditions, assess risks, and develop corrective-action plans and budgets.
  • Lead and engage associates to promote Near Hits submission and follow up on solutions.
  • Keep management apprised of progress and significant developments on key projects.
  • Assist site management in executing EHS priorities to achieve corporate KPIs.
  • Support efforts to analyze and communicate performance, provide feedback, and establish actions for improvement.
  • Manage the servicing and maintenance of all equipment on site.
  • Oversee changes to equipment and processes to ensure high standards of quality and safety.
  • Coordinate external contractors and service providers.
  • Deliver monthly corporate reports as required.
  • Ensure correlation of incoming inspection methodology and risk management of new processes.
  • Address reports and requests from global affiliates, potentially involving evenings for Europe & US interaction.
  • Execute tasks by prioritizing customer experience and organizational principles.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in tasks and assistance as required.
  • Proactively lead Quality and Safety duties in line with changing standards and regulations.
  • Provide management coverage for Operations and Service teams.
  • Work with Operations Manager to lead implementation of MSA Business System at the workshop.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a QA/QC management role.
  • Familiarity with ISO9001.
  • Familiarity with internal and external audits.
  • Familiarity with quality control and analytical tools.
  • Familiarity with Operations/Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Experience in Production Management / Engineering Management is preferred.
