About the Role
The ATOL Finance Licensing function regulates approximately 1,600 ATOL holders, focusing on the financial sustainability of aviation and travel businesses. This role involves financial supervision and regulatory compliance for leading tour operators under the ATOL consumer protection scheme, with potential involvement in overseeing UK-registered airlines and space industry companies. The position offers an opportunity to shape regulatory approaches in response to evolving market challenges.
Responsibilities
- Assessing and monitoring a portfolio of companies through qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Maintaining oversight of compliance against legislative and policy frameworks.
- Advising the credit committee and senior management on company financial sustainability.
- Recommending licensing conditions based on company risk profiles.
- Ensuring travel businesses meet legislative and regulatory requirements for consumer benefit.
- Conducting regular reviews and monitoring market trends to identify early licensing actions.
- Handling complex cases, including companies in financial distress or with complex structural changes.
- Building and maintaining relationships with senior management of license holders.
- Collaborating with regulatory policy experts to identify and mitigate non-compliance issues.
- Supporting the management team and undertaking ad-hoc projects.
- Coaching and developing junior team members.
- Developing a solid understanding of policies and regulatory frameworks affecting UK airlines and travel industries.
- Identifying and recommending improvements for policies, processes, and practices.
Requirements
- Strong experience in credit risk management and/or a financial qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CFA or equivalent) or other relevant experience.
- Knowledge and experience in accounting and economics; corporate finance; debt and equity financing; corporate restructuring; or strategic analysis is advantageous.
- Ability to manage workload effectively, maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Good data and modelling skills, including the ability to synthesize large datasets and develop or interrogate financial models.
- Must have the right to work in the UK for security vetting.
- Candidates must provide truthful, factually accurate statements from their own experience.
