About the Role

As a member of the trade compliance team, the Import Specialist will support the trade compliance function, focusing on imports. This includes daily support for import shipments, broker requests, HTS code assignment, file audits, and collaboration with other departments. The role also supports FTZ operations and CTPAT compliance.

Responsibilities

Research and classify parts for import shipments, determining accurate HTS numbers, verifying country of origin, quantity, valuation, and PGA information.
Research and respond to Customs requests for information in a timely manner.
Research and classify new parts for imports according to the HTSUS.
Assist in risk assessment reviews, including quarterly internal assessments for imports.
Assist with the annual preparation and distribution of C-TPAT supply chain security letters to suppliers and service providers.
Perform Customs portal updates of the C-TPAT program as required.
Work directly with other company departments to obtain information needed for trade compliance and to assist in educating them about trade compliance.
Review ACE portal for updates and reports used to maintain compliance.
Maintain and update the parts database with current HTS numbers.
Resolve discrepancies and address import challenges and issues.
Work directly with third-party providers (freight forwarders, Customs Brokers) to facilitate the release of import/export shipments.
Perform other duties as assigned by management to meet company or business objectives.

Requirements

Knowledge of Customs Regulations, especially 19 CFR 146.
Working knowledge of PC skills including Outlook, Excel, and industry-related websites (CROSS, FDA, APHIS, US HTS, etc.).
Experience with Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Classifications.
Understanding of auditing principles.
5-12 years of experience working in import operations and compliance with an importer or customs broker.
