About the Role

The Verification team builds and tests tools to verify agreements about AI. We prototype new verification mechanisms, lead international research collaborations, and work with policymakers to inform the use of these tools. This role focuses on establishing the trustworthiness of hardware attestations and building systems upon them.

Responsibilities

  • Establish what confidential computing attestation on current accelerators proves.
  • Design and build a registry for checking attested claims without permission.
  • Develop attested pipelines that are resistant to adversarial manipulation.
  • Publish research findings on hardware guarantees and attestation limitations.
  • Work with cryptographers, hardware-security colleagues, and external partners.
  • Run end-to-end evaluations under mutual secrecy.
  • Chain attestations across a pipeline to ensure claim verifiability.
  • Implement a confidential computing stack on accelerators from multiple supply chains.
  • Combine hardware attestation with cryptographic work for enhanced verification.
  • Conduct red-teaming of attestation chains.

Requirements

  • Experience building with confidential computing or hardware enclaves (SGX, TDX, SEV-SNP, Arm CCA, GPU confidential computing) or strong systems security fundamentals.
  • Understanding of attestation chains, including their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Ability to critically evaluate security claims and identify limitations.
  • Experience shipping integrations across organizational boundaries.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous, early-stage environments where problem definition is key.
  • ML inference serving experience and production deployment experience (strong candidate).
  • Background in audit, certification, or PKI (strong candidate).
  • Experience with privacy-preserving computation beyond enclaves (strong candidate).
  • Familiarity with AI evaluations and safety institute needs (strong candidate).
  • Experience explaining hardware guarantees to non-technical audiences (strong candidate).
