About the Role

The Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) provides quality education from pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 in French as a first language within a minority context. CSAP plays a vital role in developing cultural identity and promoting the French language in a unique Acadian and Francophone setting in Nova Scotia. With 22 schools and over 7,000 students, CSAP relies on a team of over 1,100 staff members who contribute daily to the academic, cultural, and identity-related success and development of our students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with feeding if necessary
  • Assist students with hygiene if necessary
  • Assist students with toileting if necessary
  • Administer medications and perform necessary medical care procedures under school direction and in compliance with board and government policies
  • Assist students with mobility throughout the school day, including lifting, positioning, exercises, physiotherapy/occupational therapy support, boarding/disembarking school transport, and accompanying students on community-based educational programs
  • Supervise students to ensure their safety
  • Assist students with their assistive devices if needed
  • Assist students with dressing and undressing, prioritizing student independence and autonomy
  • Contribute to fostering students' emotional development, well-being, and autonomy
  • Encourage students to develop self-esteem and dignity
  • Promote positive interactions among all students
  • Motivate students and encourage participation
  • Implement behavior management plans developed by the teacher and/or program planning team, including de-escalation strategies, prosocial and conflict resolution skills, and calming techniques
  • Participate in behavior management plan meetings and other required meetings

Requirements

  • Individuals with a diploma or certificate in an educational assistant program from a recognized post-secondary institution, including a formal practicum, or equivalent, will be considered qualified. A commitment to complete required training during employment may be accepted.
  • Unqualified individuals with a High School Diploma or equivalent are eligible. A commitment to obtain an educational assistant certificate within 2 years is required for permanent positions.
  • The position may require additional relevant training during employment, such as in health/personal care support or specific certification. If required, the training will be fully provided.
  • The selected candidate will be required to provide a criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check, and confirmation from the Nova Scotia Registry of Child Abuse before employment.
  • Applications must be submitted in French. Applications submitted in English will not be considered.
