About the Role
We are seeking a school assistant for a bright and sociable elementary school student in Berlin-Neukölln. The role involves providing calm, clear, and reliable support throughout the school day, helping the child navigate transitions, group settings, and sensory overload to foster greater independence and confidence.
Responsibilities
- Build a stable and trusting relationship with the child.
- Reliably accompany the child during lessons, breaks, and lunch.
- Prepare transitions and changes in the daily routine in an understandable way.
- Assist in grasping work assignments and breaking them down into manageable steps.
- Support the child in staying focused on tasks and completing activities.
- Recognize signs of tension and sensory overload early on.
- Provide calmness, orientation, and clear boundaries in challenging situations.
- Help the child reintegrate into lessons or the group after a stressful period.
- Mediate conflicts and support appropriate ways of dealing with disappointment.
- Foster social contacts and adherence to shared rules.
- Promote independence by providing only the necessary support.
- Regularly coordinate with the school, family, and Lumi Care.
- Briefly and clearly document the progress of the support.
Requirements
- Be calm, patient, clear, and reliable.
- Be able to build a supportive relationship and set appropriate boundaries.
- Remain capable of action during unrest and strong emotions.
- Do not take challenging behavior personally.
- Recognize overexertion early and react de-escalatingly.
- Communicate concisely, understandably, and appreciatively.
- Work reliably and be available Monday to Friday.
- Enjoy movement, play, and a lively school day.
- Be prepared for close and professional collaboration with all parties involved.
- Possess an extended certificate of good conduct or be willing to apply for one.
- Provide proof of legally required measles protection.
- Sufficient German language skills for communication with the child and all involved parties.
