About the Role

For a 5th-grade student, we are seeking a calm, sensitive, and humorous school companion. Support is approved and currently includes up to 23 hours per week. The role involves providing reliable support during lessons, breaks, transitions, and social situations, recognizing signs of overload early, offering guidance without being intrusive, and fostering a gentle relationship-building process with patience and respect for individual communication methods.

Responsibilities

• Provide reliable accompaniment during lessons, breaks, and school transitions.
• Support orientation within the daily schedule and with new situations, subjects, or teachers.
• Structure provided tasks and action sequences in small steps.
• Early recognition of overexertion, sensory overload, and physical exhaustion.
• Support in recognizing and communicating personal limits in a timely manner.
• Accompany the student out of stressful situations and facilitate appropriate rest or retreat options.
• Calmly assess social situations and provide support during misunderstandings, conflicts, or exclusion.
• Promote self-determined communication, including written messages if needed.
• Accompany during meals according to agreements made with family and school.
• Attentive accompaniment during school commutes and activities outside the classroom.
• Act prudently in cases of disorientation or impulsive departure from a situation.
• Implement agreed-upon safety and emergency procedures.
• Collaborate reliably with the school, family, and Lumi Care coordination.
• Brief, factual documentation of relevant observations.
• Enable participation in existing school offerings and gradually strengthen self-reliance.

Requirements

• Experience in supporting children in the autism spectrum or willingness to undergo intensive professional training.
• A calm, patient, and appreciative demeanor.
• Ability to act clearly and de-escalate even during overload or meltdowns.
• A good sense of proximity and distance: offer support without creating pressure.
• Willingness to allow the student sufficient processing and reaction time.
• Enjoyment of humorous relationship building; an interest in football may facilitate access.
• Attention to physical exhaustion, fall risks, and special safety needs.
• Willingness to be trained in agreed-upon procedures for asthma and severe allergic reactions.
• Reliability and preferably continuous availability during school hours.
• Good cooperation and communication skills.
• A pedagogical, social, or social care qualification is desirable.
• Relevant experience for career changers is also welcome.
