About the Role
Software-defined vehicles are transforming transportation, making it safer, smarter, and more sustainable. General Motors is leveraging its position as a leading OEM to control both in-vehicle and cloud software, offering integrated solutions for fleet management, logistics, and energy optimization. GM is seeking mission-driven talent in Silicon Valley and Austin to build next-generation commercial fleet platforms at scale, focusing on customer-centric technology and sustainability. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the team responsible for building, scaling, and maintaining GM’s Commercial eCommerce platform, driving the technical roadmap, and overseeing end-to-end delivery across critical monetization domains.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a full-stack engineering team, providing mentorship, career growth, and setting up a culture of engineering excellence.
- Lead the development of GM Commercial eCommerce roadmap.
- Lead cross‑functional meetings to drive issue resolution and support design discussions that meet program milestones.
- Be deeply involved technically with your team, helping shape designs, architecture, participating in code reviews and incident post-mortem.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software development, product building, or similar domains.
- 3+ years in engineering management with a proven ability to recruit top talent, cultivate technical career growth, and foster high-performing engineering cultures.
- Experience and comfort leading highly technical teams through the software development lifecycle (SDLC) utilizing industry standard/best practice for software development approaches.
- Expertise designing fault-tolerant, event-driven architectures where data integrity is paramount—mastery of idempotent APIs, ordered messaging, event sourcing/durable logs, and at-least-once/effectively-once guarantees.
- Deep experience connecting core services with external ecosystems, including payment processors, tax automation, and enterprise ERPs.
- Experience defining strict SLIs/SLOs for mission-critical financial paths and delivering tangible operational wins (e.g., automated reconciliation, faster close times, zero-loss settlement).
- Comfortable bridging the gap between digital software, regulated hardware, and complex physical operations.
- BS in CS/CE/EE or equivalent practical experience.
