About the Role

The AVP, Product Management - Underwriting & Product Technology will lead technology prioritization across our Underwriting and Product organizations. This role builds and runs the process that decides what technology work gets done, in what order, and why, driving alignment with business and technology leaders. You will create a single view of demand and capacity, facilitate prioritization and trade-off conversations, and influence decisions so that technology resources are applied to the most critical business initiatives. The operating model for this does not yet exist; you will build it, then run it.

Responsibilities

  • Define the prioritization framework for technology work across Underwriting and Product.
  • Design and run the operating model supporting the prioritization framework, including governance forums, meeting cadences, agendas, escalation paths, supporting materials, and status reporting.
  • Own and continuously refine the cross-team backlog to ensure it remains current, aligned to business objectives, and clearly justified.
  • Facilitate prioritization forums with business owners and IT leaders, making trade-offs explicit and driving clear decisions.
  • Partner with IT leadership and system architects on capacity planning, sizing, and breaking down work.
  • Define business requirements for request readiness and work with IT to improve requirement documentation and sign-off processes.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience in product management, product ownership, program management, or technology portfolio management, with experience prioritizing work across multiple delivery teams.
  • Personal lines insurance background, with working knowledge of underwriting, policy administration, and product change processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize well under competing demands.
  • Extremely organized, with the ability to manage a large volume of requests, decisions, and follow-ups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including running decision-making forums with senior stakeholders.
  • Comfortable influencing decisions and outcomes outside of direct authority.
  • Experience building operating processes from scratch.
  • Working familiarity with agile practices: backlogs, epics and features, capacity-based planning, and iterative refinement.
  • Experience with a policy administration platform is preferred.
  • Agile product owner or product management certification (CSPO, PSPO, SAFe PM/PO, or similar) is preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
