About the Role
Employee Communications is essential for building a connected, informed, and engaged global workforce. This role owns Equinix's internal content and channel ecosystem, defining channel strategy, establishing a scalable content engine, and managing employee-facing channels like broadcast email, the corporate intranet, digital signage, and Viva Engage. The position also oversees the internal brand and tone of voice, ensuring consistency across all content.
Responsibilities
- Develop and own a multi-channel strategy tailored to the right message, moment, and audience for a global, hybrid workforce.
- Evaluate and implement AI-enabled content and channel tools to enhance production speed and personalization.
- Set the roadmap for Equinix's internal channel ecosystem, including future investments, consolidation, or retirement of channels.
- Define channel governance, including publication permissions, approval workflows, and standards for cadence and volume to prevent message fatigue.
- Utilize channel performance data and employee feedback for continuous strategy refinement.
- Design the operating model for Equinix's internal content engine, incorporating AI agents for content discovery, defining intake, prioritization, production standards, and accountability.
- Own the annual and quarterly content plan, translating company strategy and executive priorities into themes and campaigns.
- Partner with business, HR, and executive stakeholders to shape priorities into compelling employee-facing content and manage competing demands.
- Oversee the content production resourcing model, including team capacity, agency/freelance support, budget, and tooling, making trade-off decisions when demand exceeds capacity.
- Set editorial, creative, and accessibility quality standards, and review the engine's output against them.
- Lead content and channel delivery for critical moments personally and serve as channel owner during major events like reorganizations or leadership changes.
- Own end-to-end management of broadcast email (Poppulo), including platform administration, send strategy, segmentation, and performance reporting.
- Own the intranet (Hub) as a channel, including information architecture, homepage strategy, content standards, and platform roadmap.
- Partner with other teams to review digital signage network strategy, including screen placement, platform selection, and operational standards.
- Own the strategy and day-to-day management of Viva Engage, including community structure, moderation, and driving employee participation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to leverage AI for transforming the employee communications experience.
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and budgets for channel platforms, staying updated on new features and best practices.
- Own the internal brand, including visual identity, templates, and design standards for all employee-facing content and channels.
- Define and maintain Equinix's internal tone of voice, ensuring consistency across all channels and contributors.
- Develop and disseminate brand and voice guidelines, training content owners across the business.
- Act as the final quality check for major internal campaigns to ensure brand and voice consistency at scale.
- Set accessibility and localization standards for content to serve a global, multilingual workforce.
- Define channel and content KPIs (reach, opens, click-through, engagement, sentiment) and report regularly to leadership.
- Partner with HR and People Analytics on pulse surveys and channel-specific feedback to align employee feedback with content production.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Manager, Content & Channels, setting clear priorities, standards, and growth paths.
- Own team design, capability, and capacity, defining needed roles, hiring, and building skills in writing, video, design, and channel management.
- Set and review performance objectives, manage performance issues, and create development opportunities for the creative team.
- Build and manage a network of regional and functional communications contributors for local content creation within brand and voice guardrails.
- Foster a team culture balancing high creative standards with operational discipline, reliability, and team wellbeing during peak demand.
Requirements
- 7–10 years of communications experience, including internal/employee communications, content strategy, or channel management.
- Experience managing broadcast email platforms (Poppulo or similar), intranets, and enterprise social/collaboration tools (Viva Engage or similar).
- Knowledge and experience of integrating AI into a content and channels approach.
- Proven experience building or scaling a content function, with strong editorial judgment and an eye for visual quality.
- People management experience, including managing a manager and leading a team indirectly, with a track record of developing others.
- Experience owning team capacity, budget, and vendor or agency relationships.
- Strong grasp of internal brand and tone of voice, with the ability to build and enforce guidelines across a large organization.
- Data-informed approach to channel and content decisions, comfortable working with engagement metrics and reporting to a senior audience.
