About the Role
Seeking a technically strong Estimator with knowledge and experience in Electrical Power Distribution Construction to compile cost estimates, assess project requirements, and support competitive tender packages to ensure profitable contract execution.
Responsibilities
- Develop estimates including project site visits, quantity take-offs, pricing, and presentation for review.
- Assemble estimates from various sources into a final company estimate with engineering support.
- Review and validate outsourced estimates with engineering support.
- Incorporate historical data from estimates, awarded contracts, and final project costs into the cost model.
- Format estimates in Owners Reporting format.
- Review and understand Design Basis, Engineering Design Documents, and Basis of Estimate.
- Prepare written deliverables for bid submission, including work understanding, assumptions, and execution plans.
- Provide estimating input on complex conceptual projects.
- Guide non-estimating personnel on their estimating requirements.
- Attend project planning sessions and team meetings to provide estimating input.
- Interface and communicate effectively with the estimating team, management, clients, and industry contacts.
- Develop relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing.
- Develop or assist in developing general and project-specific plans for execution, sequencing, and logistics.
- Develop or assist in developing preliminary project schedules.
Requirements
- Journeyman Electrician, Powerline Technician, Post-Secondary education in Electrical Engineering, or other related education.
- Utility construction industry experience with demonstrated estimating exposure.
- Demonstrated understanding of Estimating Software and technical knowledge of estimating practices, techniques, and equipment.
- Knowledge of construction costs and budgets.
- Ability to develop a project schedule.
- Understanding of construction documents.
- Ability to assess the level of completeness of construction documents.
- Ability to read drawings and specifications.
- Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions.
Skills
- Technical knowledge of utility / powerline construction
- Demonstrated experience with InEight Estimating Software
- Estimating experience projects ranging from $1M to $50M
- 3 years industry specific estimating experience
- Experience in EPC estimating / execution
- Preparing written deliverables for bid submissions
