About the Role
Join the Scaling Planner team within Amazon's CloudTune organization to automate capacity management for thousands of EC2-based Auto Scaling Groups. This role focuses on designing, delivering, and operating systems for Proactive and Reactive Scaling, ensuring Amazon's infrastructure is always right-sized to power key services.
Responsibilities
- Own the design, implementation, and operation of Proactive Scaling services using business forecasts, scaling formulas, and the Capacity Calculator.
- Build and improve the automated pipeline for calculating, scheduling, and applying capacity recommendations across supported regions.
- Drive integration between Proactive Scaling, Capacity Calculator, FMC, and CCS for seamless capacity automation.
- Design and operate systems supporting scaling formulas based on MWS metrics, CloudTune forecasts, and Apollo attributes.
- Define and monitor risk factors, efficiency metrics, and guardrails to drive iterative improvements with customers.
- Lead technical design reviews, author design documents, and influence architectural direction.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design guidance, and operational best practices.
- Maintain high operational standards, including on-call, monitoring, alarming, and incident response.
Requirements
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- Experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systems, including architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design.
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
